LIVING ROOM IN AMERICAN GLAMOUR STYLE, The Netherlands, 2025
The Problem: The room was dark, lacked functionality, and choosing furniture, curtains, and accessories proved to be a challenge. This was her first renovation project in the Netherlands.
The Task: To retain the existing kitchen and sofa, emphasize the beauty of the windows, and seamlessly incorporate the client’s favorite colors — sea blue and yellow.
The Solution: We created a bright, stylish interior with refined details that reflect the client’s love for traveling to America, all while staying within budget.
What We Did:
- Functional Symmetry: We removed an old niche and built a symmetrical cabinet structure that now separates the living room from the kitchen.
- On the living room side: cabinets with built-in lighting and glass doors. The client now uses them to store a family china set that had been gathering dust in the garage.
- On the kitchen side: the same cabinet functions as a coffee station with additional built-in waste storage.
- Kitchen Enhancements: We added IKEA wall cabinets and an eye-catching round light fixture to make the space more practical and cozy.
- Classic Elements: Ceiling cornices, wall moldings, and high baseboards added volume and sophistication to the interior, referencing classic design.
- A Central Feature: A mirror designed according to my sketches became the key focal point in the dining area. It highlights the shape of the windows and fills the space with daylight.
- Furniture and Zoning:
- We retained the previous sofa arrangement and complemented the space with a seating area.
- Added floor lamps that create a cozy atmosphere in the evening and visually define the living area.
- Repainted an old TV stand to match the new sideboard.
- Decor: Posters and a painting by a local artist from The Hague tied the color palette together, adding personality to the space.
- Lighting: Our team chased the walls for new electrical outlets. We added wall and floor lighting, as well as additional sockets for convenience.
- Exterior: In the garden, we planted evergreen climbers. By summer, they will form a living green wall, enhancing the connection between the interior and nature as envisioned in the renderings.
The Result: The interior became bright, functional, and sophisticated. The client was thrilled, and the neighbors can’t resist peeking in for inspiration.
